WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 5) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team opened its 2023-24 campaign with a tight 5-3 road victory over Washington & Jefferson College.
With the match tied at 3-3, freshman
August Lawrence clinched the victory for the Bearcats with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, his first collegiate win.
The Bearcats opened the night by taking two of three doubles matches. At the No. 2 position,
Brian Lee and
Braden Yokopenic earned an 8-4 win, while the No. 3 tandem of
Brady Johnson and
Jack Citrone won 8-6.
Lee was a two-time winner on the night, picking up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
Along with Lawrence, rookie
Josh Havrilla also earned his first career singles win, taking a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
Saint Vincent will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 17, when they open their home slate with a 3 p.m. date at the SVC Courts.
