LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 8)- The Saint Vincent women's tennis team won their second straight match to open the season with a 6-3 non-conference win against Carlow on Friday evening.

SVC won two out of the three doubles matches, followed up with four out of six wins in singles to win the match.

In number three doubles,
Bella Baumgardner and
Julia Runk scored the Bearcats an 8-2 win for their first point of the afternoon, giving SVC a 1-0 lead.

After an 8-3 loss in number one doubles tied the match up at 1-1,
Abby Donnelly and
Lydia Lieb gave the Bearcats the advantage with an 8-7(1) win in number two doubles, putting Saint Vincent ahead 2-1 heading into singles play.

In singles play,
Marisa Hooper picked up another win for the Bearcats as she completed a 6-0, 6-0 win to increase the SVC lead to 3-1.
Rachel Zgurich lost a tough one in number one singles, falling 1-6, 6-2, and 5-10 in the tiebreaker, as the Celtics cut the SVC lead to 3-2.

Donnelly finished third picking up a 6-2, 6-0 win in number four singles to give SVC a 4-2 lead.
Rebecca Kurylo followed with the clinching victory for SVC in number six singles, winning her match 6-0, 6-3.

Lieb added the final win of the day for SVC, compiling a 6-2, 6-3 win in number three singles.
Emily Pierce fell by a 6-7(4), 1-6 score as the score ended up 6-3 in favor of the Bearcats.

The win moves SVC to 2-0 on the season. Saint Vincent gets right back on the court tomorrow morning with a non-conference matchup against Mount Aloysius College on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
