LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 20) – The Saint Vincent College women's team rolled to a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-meet sweep at the Resnick Pool, defeating Franciscan, 168-93, and Bethany, 198-48.
Continuing their strong performance from their win less than 24 hours earlier against Chatham, the Bearcats (7-2, 5-1 PAC) produced first-place finishes in 11 of 14 races enroute to the decisive victories.
The Bearcat foursome of
Abby Leskovansky,
Emma Martz,
Teresa Grimm, and
Sarah Alexander began the day by earning a 14-second victory in the 200 medley relay, posting a winning time of 1:59.09.
The top two spots in the 1650 freestyle were then claimed by Bearcats, as
Rachel Hutchinson won in 19:07.75 and Alexander handled the fast turnaround to place second in 19:27.15.
The 200 freestyle saw two of the top three spots claimed by Bearcats, with
Brook McDermott taking second (2:11.09) and Val Clabaugh third (2:16.47), before three of the first four finishers in the 100 backstroke came from Saint Vincent, with Martz winning in 1:05.86,
Elyssa Bognar taking third in 1:12.54 and
Emma Morgan fourth in 1:13.58.
Lily Holsey claimed second in the 100 breaststroke, finishing less than two one-hundredths of a second off the lead with a time of 1:15.59, before Grimm claimed a five-second win in the 200 butterfly, timed in 2:39.76.
Saint Vincent occupied both the first and third spots in the 50 freestyle, with Leskovansky placing first (25.51 seconds) and
Emma Morgan third (29.34 seconds), before the 100 freestyle saw Martz place first (57.38 seconds) and
Cecilia Hickin third (1:04.62).
Leskovansky picked up her second win of the afternoon in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:24.20, with Alexander taking second in 2:39.53, while Val Clabaugh (2:47.89) and Holsey (2:49.40) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke.
Hutchinson then earned a sweep of the distance events, winning the 500 freestyle in 5:33.17, with McDermott taking second in 5:49.56.
Grimm's second win of the day came in the 100 butterfly, winning by a four-second margin with a time of 1:08.29, before Leskovansky completed the hat trick with a win in the 200 individual medley, clocking a winning mark of 2:24.15.
The Bearcats then wrapped up the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, with Clabaugh, Alexander, Hutchinson and McDermott winning in 1:51.96, three seconds ahead of the runners-up.
Saint Vincent will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27, when it wraps up its home slate and celebrates Senior Day with a 1 p.m. match against PAC rival Westminster College in the Resnick Pool.
