LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 27) – The Saint Vincent College women's swimming team closed out its home portion of the 2023-24 campaign with a 146-134 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Westminster College.
Five swimmers earned multiple wins for the Bearcats (8-2, 6-1 PAC), who were victorious in nine of the afternoon's 14 races.
The Bearcats got off to a strong start, with the quartet of
Abby Leskovansky,
Lily Holsey,
Emma Martz and
Sarah Alexander earning a two-second victory in the 200 medley relay with a winning time of 1:56.96.
Rachel Hutchinson (11:32.13) and
Brook McDermott (11:57.63) would then take the top two spots in the 1,000 freestyle, before Leskovansky picked up her first individual victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.58.
Val Clabaugh (1:15.43) and
Lily Holsey (1:17.46) finished first and third, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke, before
Emma Martz won the 200 butterfly in 2:21.43.
Leskovansky then earned wins in back-to-back races, placing first in the 50 freestyle (26.03 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (56.88).
After Alexander's second-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:25.70), Clabaugh picked up her second victory of the day by posting a time of 2:45.72 in the 200 breaststroke.
In the 500 freestyle, Hutchinson placed second in 5:37.68, before
Teresa Grimm won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.23, and Martz became a repeat winner by posting a 5-second victory in the 200 individual medley in 2:19.69.
The SVC freestyle relay quartet of Alexander,
Cecilia Hickin, Hutchinson and Martz would then close the meet with a runner-up finish in 1:49.31, while the grouping of
Julia Schultz,
Emma Morgan,
Abigail Stewart and
Elyssa Bognar placed third in 1:58.96.
Prior to the Bearcats' final home event of the season, Bognar was recognized for her four-year career in a pre-match Senior Day ceremony.
The Bearcats will now turn their attention to the 2024 PAC Championships, slated for Feb. 14-17 at Grove City College.
