LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 27) – The Saint Vincent College men's swimming team won 13 of 14 races to defeat Westminster College, 171-112, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual in the Frank and Elizabeth Resnik Pool.
It marks the first-ever victory for the Bearcat men (5-4, 5-1 PAC) over the Titans (3-4, 3-1 PAC).
Saint Vincent took the early lead by sweeping the top two spots in the 200 medley relay, with the foursome of
Jacob Dzurica,
Liam Randolph,
Colin Spehar and
Alex Leskovansky winning in a time of 1:38.21, while the SVC quartet of
Anton Seifert,
Robert Harrington,
Jacob Halter and
Hayden Klein placed second in 1:46.70.
Jacob Bacasa picked up SVC's first individual victory of the afternoon, winning the 1,000 freestyle in 10:43.35 to post a 7-second win, before Harrington and Leskovansky finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle, with the former posting a time of 1:51.75 and the latter 1:51.98.
The Bearcats would again sweep the top two places in the 100 backstroke, with
Jacob Dzurica winning in 52.99 seconds and Seifert placing second in 58.49.
Randolph picked up a 3-second win in the 100 breaststroke, with a winning time of 56.69 seconds, before Spehar took first (2:07.13) and Klein second (2:13.27) in the 200 butterfly.
Dzurica picked up his second win of the day in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 22.04 seconds, while Leskovansky placed second (23.50) and
Soma Burt third (24.74). Leskovansky (50.97) and Harrington (51.14) would then go 1-2 in the 100 freestyle, before Dzurica earned his third win of the meet with a time of 2:02.22 in the 200 backstroke.
Randolph's second victory came in the 200 breaststroke, with his time of 2:14.56 nine seconds faster than the runner-up, moments before earning his third win with a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:01.07.
Bacasa swept the distance events, taking the 500 freestyle by a 12-second margin with a time of 5:16.65, before Spehar took first (56.02) and Klein second (57.35) in the 100 butterfly.
In the final event of the afternoon, the 200 freestyle, the Bearcat foursome of Harrington, Spehar, Klein and Burt placed second in 1:34.59, less than a quarter second off the top spot.
SVC will now have a two-week layoff before the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, slated for Feb. 14-17 at Grove City College.
