Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bearcats, Bison play to rainy draw

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 1) – The Saint Vincent men's soccer team battled Bethany College to a 1-1 tie in a rainy Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup under the UPMC Field lights.

Saint Vincent's Cameron Mulvanny broke a scoreless tie in the 71st minute by blasting a free kick from 35 yards out inside the crossbar for his third goal of the season.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Bethany's Santi Bruni scored the game-tying goal with 2:43 left in regulation.

Saint Vincent outshot Bethany 17-15 for the game, while doubling up the visitors, 8-4, in shots-on-goal.

Mulvanny's goal was set up by a foul drawn by Mattia Speretta, who was on the receiving end of an illegal tackle while in transition that led to a Bethany yellow card and Mulvanny's perfectly placed, right-footed, long-range free kick bomb.

The Bearcats kept the momentum shortly after the free kick, taking three shots and earning three corner kicks over the next five minutes, but were unable to add an insurance marker.

Bruni would then tie the game on a header off of a cross in front of the goal mouth in the 88th minute.

Kameron Rock played all 90 minutes in goal for Saint Vincent and recorded three saves.

Eight different Saint Vincent players accounted for the team's 17 shots, while six Bearcats took at least two attempts, led by four from Jayden Gyan and three from Oziel Bonola-Soriano.

The teams combined to commit 15 fouls, with nine whistled on Bethany.

Saint Vincent will be back at home for its next match, welcoming Penn State-New Kensington for a 7 p.m. non-conference bout on Friday, Oct. 4, at UPMC Field.
