LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 4) – A late charge fell just short for the Saint Vincent men's soccer team, which was forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Penn State-New Kensington under the lights at UPMC Field.

Over the game's final two minutes, the Bearcats had three corners and three shots, including one that banged off the post with 41 seconds left, but were unable to net a late go-ahead goal.

Saint Vincent (1-5-6) held the better of possession for the bulk of the game, outshooting Penn State-New Kensington (3-5-2) by a 28-11 margin and taking 11 of the game's 14 corner kicks.

The Bearcats took an early lead in the 15th minute when
Alfie Aldridge broke through the defense on a breakaway and was hauled down from behind, leading to a penalty kick, which he buried for his first goal of the season.

The one-goal lead held up for the next 27 minutes, until the Lions' Ethan Krystak scored off an assist from Jason Ireland with 2:10 left to tie the game at 1-1, which is how the score remained at halftime.

Penn State-New Kensington wasted little time after the break to take the lead, as Louie Negron scored 17 seconds into the half to make it 2-1.

The Bearcats answered back to tie it in the 75th minute when
Javier Torres controlled the ball on the end line after a corner kick and fed a perfect cross through the goal mouth to
Kelvin Aguilar-Contreras, who turned and banged it home to make it 2-2 with just over 14 minutes left in regulation.

Though they couldn't come up with a go-ahead goal, the Bearcats controlled play down the stretch, outshooting the Lions 9-0 over the game's final 12 minutes.

Torres and
Mattia Speretta tied for the SVC team lead with six goals apiece, while
Oziel Bonola-Soriano took three attempts and Aldridge three.

Kameron Rock started in goal and made two saves over the first 62 minutes, before giving way to
Grant Archuleta, who saved the only shot he faced in 28 minutes of action.

The Bearcats will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 9, traveling north for a 7 p.m. road match at Geneva College.
