BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 9) – Host Geneva scored with less than six minutes remaining in regulation to defeat Saint Vincent, 1-0, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup under the lights at Reeves Field.
After the Bearcat defense held strong through 84 minutes of scoreless play, Geneva's Darren Main scored what proved to be the game-winner with 5:58 left.
The Bearcats' strong defensive effort was led by junior goalkeeper
Kameron Rock, who tallied seven saves – several at point-blank range – in the hard-luck loss.
The SVC defense also blocked seven shots on the night.
Saint Vincent's best two scoring chances came in the second half. With 31 minutes left,
Kelvin Aguilar-Contreras' attempt from the top of the box was turned away, before
Josh Tomas' deflection off of a corner kick went just over the crossbar with 14:25 remaining.
Geneva, which improved to 10-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in PAC play, outshot Saint Vincent (1-6-6, 0-3-1) 22-2 on the evening, while taking 14 of the game's 16 corner kicks.
It marked the 10th consecutive shutout for the Golden Tornadoes.
Saint Vincent will return home on Saturday, Oct. 12, to host Waynesburg University at 3 p.m. on Senior Day at UPMC Field.
