NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Saint Vincent football team suffered its fifth consecutive defeat, falling 56-0 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup at Westminster College.
The Bearcats (1-6, 1-6 PAC) trailed just 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, before the Titans (5-1, 5-1 PAC) pulled away with 24 points in the second quarter.
Saint Vincent struggled on both sides of the ball, with Westminster holding a 479-58 margin in total offense.
Making his first career start, freshman running back
Isaiah Sosak led the Bearcat offense with 34 rushing yards.
Defensively, senior linebacker
Wiley Purry led all players with 12 tackles, including a half tackle for loss. It marked the sixth time in as many games this season in which Purry amassed 10 or more stops.
Freshman linebacker
Nathan Parker added a career-high nine tackles, while junior defensive tackle
Josiah Weyandt and junior safety
Kyle Murray each recorded a tackle for loss.
Sophomore punter
Daishaun Alexander averaged 41.8 yards on six kicks, highlighted by a season-long 51-yarder, while sophomore
Keegan O'Brien amassed 100 yards on five kick returns.
Westminster quarterback Ty McGowan completed 12 of 19 passes for 225 yards and four touchdowns, while running back Ryan Gomes ran 12 times for 64 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Sleva led the Westminster defense with seven tackles, including one of the Titans' three sacks.
The Bearcats will be back at home when they return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26, welcoming nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon to Chuck Noll Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
