LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 25) – The Saint Vincent men's swimming team hosted Penn State-Altoona in its 2024-25 home-opener on Friday night in the Resnik Pool.
The Bearcats (0-2) won six events on the evening, but were defeated by the Lions, 144-118.
SVC got the evening started in fine fashion, earning an impressive victory in the 200 medley relay, with the foursome of
Jacob Dzurica,
Liam Randolph,
Alex Leskovansky and
Robert Harrington posting a three-second win with a time of 1:38.12.
James Clark followed with a second-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle, timed in 11:33.23, before Harrington placed second (1:49.80) and
Gabe Yant fourth (1:58.68) in the 200 freestyle.
Dzurica earned SVC's first individual win of the night, posting a time of 53.47 seconds in the 100 backstroke to outdistance the runner up by more than four seconds, and Randolph followed with his first individual win in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:00.26 to win by five seconds.
The Bearcats then received second-place finishes by
Alex Leskovansky in the 50 freestyle (23.07 seconds) and
Hayden Klein in the 200 butterfly (2:10.87), before Dzurica earned his second win of the evening with a time of 47.57 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
After
Christopher Shilaos took second (2:18.41) and
Anton Seifert third (2:19.82) in the 200 backstroke, Randolph earned the win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:18.38, with
Giovanni Guido taking third (2:28.08).
Harrington would then place second in the 500 freestyle in 5:11.47, while Leskovansky earned another runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly in 57.08 seconds.
In the penultimate event of the night, the 200 individual medley, Randolph placed second (2:06.23) and Guido third (2:09.99).
The Bearcats would then close the night in the same fashion in which they started it, posting a strong win in the 200 freestyle relay. Dzurica, Harrington, Leskovansky and Klein combined for a time of 1:29.83, winning by just under two seconds.
Saint Vincent will be back at home when it returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 2, hosting York College at 1 p.m. in the Resnik Pool.
