Women's Swimming Wins Big Against Penn State-Altoona in Home Opener

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 25)- The Saint Vincent women's swimming team secured a big 176-84 win against Penn State-Altoona in the home opener for the Bearcats on Friday night.
 
Saint Vincent (1-1) won 12 of the 14 events on the night over Penn State Altoona (1-1).
 
Deanna Miller had a big night to lead Saint Vincent, picking up five wins, two of which came in relays, while she also won three individual events as well. She helped the Bearcat relay teams win the
 
Miller opened the night for Saint Vincent swimming a leg on the Bearcats 200 medley relay team. Miller along with Fallyn Zembiec, Emma Martz, and Abby Leskovansky won the event for SVC in a time of 1:55.18.
 
SVC also had the second-place team in the 200-medley with Cecilia Hickin, Teresa Grimm, Rachel Hutchinson, and Sarah Alexander swimming a time of 1:59.57 to secure the top two spots for the Bearcats.
 
Miller's individual victories came in the 100-breaststroke (1:12.64), 200-breaststroke (2:39.11), and 200-IM (2:24.47). Lily Holsey placed second in both of the breaststroke events behind Miller, swimming a time of 1:12.64 in the 100 and a time of 2:39.11 in the 200. Hutchinson finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.46 for SVC.
 
Martz helped Saint Vincent with a huge night as she won four of the events for SVC, two of which came on relays and two individual victories as well.
 
Martz was also a part of the Bearcats winning 200-freestyle relay team as well. She teamed up with Hickin, Alexander, and Leskovansky in the relay win, swimming a time of 1:44.87 as a team to win the event for Saint Vincent.
 
Her two individual wins came in the 100-butterfly (1:04.26) and 200-butterfly (2:25.96). In the 100-butterfly, Grimm finished second for SVC with a time of 1:04.26.
 
Leskovansky also totaled four wins, two of which came on the relay teams with Martz and Miller. She also won the 100-backstroke (1:01.20) and 100-freestyle (55.46). In the freestyle, Brook McDermott placed second with a time of 1:00.63 to finish in second behind Leskovansky.
 
Zembiec added a couple of individual wins for SVC as well with wins in the 50-freestyle (26.92) and the 200-backstroke (2:20.56).
 
In the first individual event of the night, Hutchinson won for the Bearcats, racing a time of 11:44.63 to cruise to the victory for SVC.
 
The Bearcats will return to action next Saturday, November 2, as they will host York College in a meet at the Frank and Elizabeth Resnick Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
