PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 26) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team was defeated, 2-1, at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Chatham Univeristy on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats (12-4-1, 6-3 PAC) were unable to sustain a late lead, as the Cougars (8-8-2, 3-5-2 PAC) scored goals in the 77th and 81st minutes for the comeback win.
In a defensively themed first half, the two teams combined for just five shots, with Saint Vincent freshman goalkeeper
Rilyn Warner producing three saves to keep the game scoreless at the intermission.
Warner produced three more saves in the first 20 minutes of the second half, before the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead with 14:35 left when
Tanisha Grewal unfurled a turning rocket from 25 yards out for her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Cougars tied it just 64 seconds later on a goal by Jorjanne Seaman.
With 8:47 to go, Chatham converted on a 3-on-1 break, with Halle Marsalis scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal, as SVC was unable to come back from the late strike.
For the game, Chatham outshot SVC 15-8, while the Cougars were granted eight corner kicks to the Bearcats' three.
Lexi Durkacs was credited with two shots to lead SVC.
Warner played all 90 minutes in the cage and recorded eight saves, tying a career-high.
Saint Vincent will close out the 2024 regular season and look to snap a three-game losing skid on Tuesday, Oct. 29, playing host to PAC foe Allegheny College at 7 p.m. at UPMC Field.
