Bearcats Downed at Home by Allegheny

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 29)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team was defeated 4-2 by Allegheny in the Bearcats regular season finale on Tuesday night.

After the Bearcats (12-5-1, 6-4 PAC) were tied 1-1 with the Gators (11-6-1, 7-2-1 PAC), Allegheny went on to outscore Saint Vincent 3-1 in the second half to hand the 4-2 defeat to SVC.

Tanisha Grewal scored the two Saint Vincent goals for the Bearcats in the loss, with the second of the two coming off an assist from Jude Galvin.

Rilyn Warner took the loss in net for SVC, making an impressive 11 saves, while allowing the four Allegheny goals. On top of Grewal's two goals, she led the Bearcats with six total shots in the loss. Galvin along with Madisen Geesaman, Emma Koller, and Jordan Kirkwood all recorded a shot on goal as well.

After a scoreless first 18 minutes of play that was controlled mostly by the Gators in their offensive end, Madeline Schneider got Allegheny on the board with a goal in the 19th minute to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.

Saint Vincent quickly responded as after a battle in front of the net, Grewal scored her first of two goals to tie the match at 1-1 and that would remain the score going into the half. Allegheny hit the crossbar late in the half, but the Bearcats rallied to kick it back to midfield and keep the score tied.

Just ten minutes into the second half, the Gators regained the lead. Katherine Surdykowski scored off of a corner kick from Karley Johnson to give the Gators a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute. Allegheny tacked on another one ten minutes later when Emma Miller scored on an assist from Surdykowski as the Bearcats found themselves with a 3-1 deficit with 25 minutes to play.

Grewal then got the Bearcats within a goal after she scored on assist from Galvin to cut the Allegheny lead to 3-2 with less than ten minutes to play. Allegheny then added an insurance goal with just under five minutes to go as Miller scored her second goal of the game for the Gators to give them a 4-2 advantage and that would remain the score the rest of the way.

The Bearcats were outshot in the loss by a 26-20 margin, including 15-7 in shots on goal. Allegheny led in corner kicks as well by a 12-4 margin and fouls were minimal throughout the game as the Bearcats committed four and the Gators totaled five of their own.

Saint Vincent will now be the number four seed in the upcoming PAC playoffs and will take on an opponent to be determined on Saturday, November 2. The Bearcats will host that first round matchup at UPMC Field on Saturday at a time to be determined.
