The Saint Vincent women's bowling team opened the 2024-25 season with a second place finish among 16 teams in an Ohio Bowling Conference tournament in Columbus, Ohio.
The event started with 8 Baker team games, and SVC quickly moved into second place after those games. Freshman
Kaylie Kurland led the team in Baker average with a game equivalent of 210, followed by senior
Sabine Strickland (205.3) and freshman
Mareana Pilyih (187.7).
Up next were four traditional games, and SVC struggled in the first game, with Strickland leading the way with a 178 game, as the Bearcats dropped to fourth place. The team improved a bit in game two, as Strickland (182) and Kurland (176) topped the scoresheet, but the team slipped to fifth place with just two games remaining.
Game three boosted the Bearcats to third place, as Strickland again led the team with a 191, while
Skyy Nicholls and
Brooke Street finished with 178 games.
In the final game of the day, Nicholls (200), Strickland (192) and Pilyih (187) had the top scores as the Bearcats moved past Wright State University to finish second.
Muskingum University won the event, with SVC finished 29 pins ahead of Wright State. Shawnee State University and Robert Morris University completed the top-5.
Individually, Strickland was named to the All-Tournament Team with a fourth place finish among 143 competitors. She averaged 185.7 in traditional play.
The Bearcat JV team finished second among six teams on the afternoon, finishing behind Ohio State University.
Lexi Pilyih earned All-Tournament honors, finishing fourth overall in the field of 36. She posted a high game of 197 for the afternoon.
SVC, ranked #6 in the nation in the preseason NCAA Division II-III poll, will return to action next weekend, traveling to Erie, Pennsylvania for the Grapevine Classic, hosted by Penn State-Behrend. The Bearcats are the defending champions.
