LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 16)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team fell to Marietta by a score of 61-50 on Saturday afternoon in the Robert S. Carey Center.
The Bearcats (0-3) were limited to just 23 points in the opening half as they trailed by eight. Saint Vincent climbed back into the game after holding Marietta (2-1) to just five points in the third quarter, but the Pioneers outscored SVC 25-16 in the fourth quarter to hand the Bearcats their third consecutive loss.
Camdon Bashor led all scorers in the game with 13 points, while also grabbing three rebounds.
Jillian Mannarino and
Makenna Maier both scored in double figures as well with ten points each. Maier also added eight rebounds and Mannarino grabbed five rebounds as well.
Saint Vincent found themselves playing from behind early as the Pioneers quickly opened up to an 8-2 lead early in the first quarter. Over the next few minutes, Marietta increased that lead to double digits at 14-4 with two minutes left in the quarter. The Bearcats closed the quarter out on a 6-2 run after a successful two-point jumper from
Emily Thompson, followed by a three pointer from Maier, and free throw by
Ashley Lippold cutting the lead to 16-10 at the end of the quarter.
 It was an evenly played back-and-forth second quarter. Marietta's lead hovered between the 6-8 point range for the majority of the quarter, but the Bearcats never went away. Marietta slightly outscored SVC 15-13 in the second quarter as the Bearcats trailed by eight (31-23) at the half.
SVC shot 10-30 (30%) in the opening half of play.
Out of the half, it was all Bearcats. The Saint Vincent defense picked up as they limited Marietta to just five points in the quarter, while they scored 11 to cut the lead to just two (36-34) heading into the fourth quarter. In the third quarter, the Bearcats limited Marietta to shoot just 2-14 from the field, helping get themselves back into the game.
Marietta flipped the script in the fourth quarter and pulled away. The Pioneers had their biggest offensive quarter of the day, outscoring SVC 25-16 to earn the double digit victory.
The Bearcats shot 19-55 (34.5%) from the field in the loss. They also scored 28 points in the paint and scored ten points off Marietta turnovers.
Saint Vincent will return to action on Wednesday, November 20 as they travel to Chatham for their PAC opener. Tip-off at Chatham is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.
