Men's basketball downed at Chatham in PAC opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 20)- The Saint Vincent men's basketball team fell by a score of 92-73 in their President's Athletic Conference opener against Chatham on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.

The Bearcats (2-2, 0-1 PAC) trailed by nine (42-33) at the half, before the Cougars (3-1, 2-0 PAC) outscored SVC by a 50-40 margin in the second half to hand Saint Vincent the loss.

Osyon Jones led Saint Vincent with 23 points, while Dev Ostrowski scored in double figures with 14 points for the Bearcats as well. Terek Crosby finished eight points of his own for SVC.
 
It was back-and-forth over the first few minutes of play. Chatham got off to a slight four-point advantage (12-8) before a Crosby three ball cut the lead to 12-11 five minutes into the game.
 
Over the next five minutes, the Bearcats controlled the pace of play, outscoring Chatham by a slight 12-8 margin to take a 23-20 lead halfway through the opening half. The Cougars controlled for the rest of the half as they quickly went on an 18-5 run over the next eight minutes to take a ten-point lead at 38-28 with just under four minutes remaining in the half.
 
The Bearcats and Cougars played even over the final three minutes of the half as Chatham led by nine (42-33) at the half.
 
Saint Vincent shot an impressive 48% from the field (12-25) in the half, but Chatham shot 57.7% (15-27), including 4-10 from beyond the three-point arc in the half. Jones led Saint Vincent with nine points in the opening half.
 
It was all Cougars the opening ten minutes of the second half. Chatham's hot shooting continued as they took outscored Saint Vincent 26-19 over the first ten minutes of the half, as the Bearcats found themselves trailing 68-52.
 
Chatham continued that momentum over the final ten minutes of the game as well as the Bearcats fell on the road in their PAC opener.
 
The Bearcats shot 43.3% from the field, while Chatham on the other hand shot an efficient 57.6% from the field.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, November 23 as they travel to Thiel for another PAC matchup. Tip-off in Greenville is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
