Women's basketball breezes past Thiel for first win of the season

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 23)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball cruised to an 84-42 win against Thiel for the Bearcats first win of the 2024 campaign.
 
Saint Vincent (1-4, 1-1 PAC) led by 17 (40-23) at the half, before outscoring the Tomcats (0-5, 0-3 PAC) 44-19 in the second half as well.

12 different Saint Vincent player scored at least one point in the win.
 
Makenna Maier recorded another double-double for the Bearcats, scoring ten points while grabbing 12 boards in the win. Camdon Bashor led Saint Vincent with 16 points, while also adding five rebounds as well.
 
Emily Thompson had a big day for SVC as well, scoring 14 points, while grabbing five boards. Ashley Lippold was the fourth Saint Vincent player to score in double figures, scoring 12 points, while grabbing two rebounds and picking up two steals. Kate Bollinger also scored eight points for Saint Vincent in the win.
 
It was a first quarter controlled by the Bearcats. Saint Vincent used a strong shooting quarter offensively to hold a 19-13 lead at the end of the quarter. As a team SVC shot 9-21 (43%) from the field in the opening quarter.
 
Over the first eight minutes of the quarter, SVC quickly opened up to a double-digit lead (17-7) with full control. After a Thiel basket cut the lead back to single digits, Jillian Mannarino hit a jumper on an assist from Reese Gadsby to put SVC back up by ten at 19-9 with just over one minute left in the quarter. A Tomcats free throw, followed by three pointer cut the Saint Vincent lead to six at the end of the quarter.
 
The Saint Vincent momentum continued into the second half. The Bearcats outscored the Tomcats by 11 (21-10) in the quarter. SVC limited Thiel to shoot just 18% (2-11) from the field in the quarter.
 
Thiel cut the lead to 19-17 early in the quarter, but from that point on it was all Bearcats. Over the next four minutes SVC went on a 15-0 run to take a 34-17 advantage. The teams traded baskets over the next four minutes as Saint Vincent held the 17-point (40-23) lead the half.
 
In the half, the Bearcats shot an impressive 42% from the field (18-43), limiting Thiel to shoot just 27% (7-26) from the field. Saint Vincent forced 15 Tomcats turnovers in the half as well.
 
It was all Bearcats in the third quarter as well. Saint Vincent outscored Thiel 23-12 in the quarter to increase their lead to 28 (63-35) by the quarters end. Maier buried two three pointers for the Bearcats in the quarter to help them continue to grow their lead.
 
Saint Vincent continued to add on in the fourth quarter as they sealed the win by outscoring Thiel 21-7 in the fourth quarter.
 
The Bearcats were an efficient 42% (34-82) from the field, while they were 12-16 from the foul line as well. They also limited Thiel to shoot just 26% (15-57) from the field and 2-19 (11%) from the three-point line.
 
SVC forced 23 Thiel turnovers in the win as well.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, November 26 as they return home to take on Franciscan in a PAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center on Tuesday night.
