D.P. Harris earns 400th career victory in win against Adrian

LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 30)- The Saint Vincent men's basketball team earned a 69-58 non-conference victory against Adrian on Monday evening. The win was the 400th in the career of Head Coach D.P. Harris.

Saint Vincent (8-3, 4-2 PAC) led by just five at the half, limiting Adrian to shoot under 35% and score just 24 points in the half. The Bearcats offense picked up a little bit in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs (2-9) 39-33 in the second half to earn the non-conference victory and milestone victory for Coach Harris.

Harris now improves his career-record to an impressive 400-162 overall.

It was a defensive led game where Saint Vincent forced 19 Bulldogs turnovers, scoring 23 points off of those turnovers, while also holding Adrian to shoot just 35% from the field in the game. Offensively, three Bearcats scored in double figures, with Mike Iuzzolino leading the way with 18 points, while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Osyon Jones finished with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Jevontae Jones added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the win for SVC. Maxwell Gordon scored eight points, while Matthew Puodziukaitis scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench.

In the first half, both teams struggled to get much of a flow going offensively as both defenses were physical. The score was 20-13, with the Bearcats holding the seven point advantage over halfway through the half. Over the remaining nine minutes and change of the first half, Adrian slighlty outscored SVC by an 11-9 margin as the Bearcats went into the half with a five point (29-24) lead.

It was much of the same story for the majority of the second half. Out of the gates, Adrian used a 6-3 spurt to cut the Saint Vincent lead to three at 33-30, but that's the closest they'd get the rest of the way. Saint Vincent held a lead that hovered around five points over the next several minutes as they led 50-45 with just under seven minutes to play.

That's when the Bearcats went on their 18-12 spurt to close the game out with the 68-57 victory.

Offensively, Saint Vincent shot 36% (22-61) as a team, while shooting just 24% (5-21) from beyond the three-point line. SVC scored 34 points in the paint and 11 second chance points as well.

The Bearcats will now return to Presidents Athletic Conference play on Saturday, January 4 as they play host to Waynesburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center on Saturday evening.
