Bearcats win fourth straight, defeat Geneva during Christmas in the Carey

LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 7)- The Saint Vincent men's basketball team earned a 77-62 victory against Geneva in a rematch of last season's Presidents Athletic Conference Championship game.
 
The Bearcats (6-3, 3-2 PAC) who have now won four consecutive games led from start to finish against Geneva (2-5, 2-2 PAC). Saint Vincent held an 11-point halftime lead (33-22), before following that up by outscoring the Golden Tornadoes by a 44-40 margin in the second half to earn the win.
 
Four Bearcats scored in double figures in the win. Osyon Jones led the way with a team-high 24 points on an impressive 12-16 shooting night, while he also grabbed five rebounds as well.
 
Mike Iuzzolino was strong as well with a 19-point performance for the Bearcats. He was 8-14 from the field and 3-8 from behind the arc, while he also totaled three rebounds.
 
Dev Ostrowski and Jevontae Jones both scored in double figures for Saint Vincent as well, scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. Jones also grabbed nine rebounds, finishing one rebound shy of a double-double
 
Coming off the bench, Matthew Puodziukaitis grabbed seven rebounds for SVC.
 
As a team, the Bearcats shot an impressive 49.3% (33-67) from the field and 7-20 from the three-point line in the win.
 
Over the first four minutes of the game, the Bearcats quickly jumped out to a seven point lead at 13-6 after a successful three-pointer from Ostrowski. That lead jumped to ten points on the next possession as Iuzzolino buried a three pointer of his own to open the lead to 16-6.
 
The Geneva scoring drought continued over the next few minutes as well as Saint Vincent found themselves with a 23-6 advantage halfway through the first half.
 
 
SVC grew their lead to 18 over the next eight minutes of the half (33-15) as they had full control in the game on both sides of the court. However, Geneva closed the half out on a quick 7-0 run, holding Saint Vincent scoreless over the final 3:30 of the half as the Bearcats lead was 33-22 at the break.
 
In the first seven minutes of the second half, Saint Vincent grew their lead back up to 20 at 49-29.
 
Once again over the next several minutes, Geneva began to claw back into the game cutting the lead to 11 (60-49) with just under six minutes to play.
 
Saint Vincent went on to close it out with good defense and consistent offense as they outscored the GT's 17-13 over the final five and a half minutes to earn the double-digit victory against the reigning PAC champs.
 
SVC scored 42 of their points in the paint and 16 points off of Geneva turnovers as well. They also slightly outrebounded Geneva by a 37-35 clip, while limiting them to shoot just 35% from the field.
 
SVC will return to action on Sunday, December 15 as they travel to Washington and Jefferson for another PAC matchup. Tip-off at W&J is scheduled for 3 p.m.
