Bearcats Cruise to 9-0 win over W&J in PAC Opener

LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 24)- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Washington and Jefferson in the PAC opener for both teams.
 
The Bearcats (8-3, 1-0 PAC) defeated the Presidents (3-6, 0-1 PAC) in all three doubles matches, before cruising to six singles match wins as well to earn the sweep.
 
In doubles play, August Lawrence and Kyle Murray picked up Saint Vincent's first win of the afternoon with an 8-2 win in number three doubles. Brady Johnson and Matthew Sadusky followed with an 8-4 win in number one doubles.
 
The Bearcats' momentum continued as Braden Yokopenic and Josh Havrilla won 8-5 in number two doubles to give Saint Vincent a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
 
Saint Vincent's fourth win of the afternoon came in number four singles as Johnson picked up his second win of the afternoon. Johnson won by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Yokopenic was the second to finish in singles play, clinching the match win for SVC, as he picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win in number one singles.
 
The SVC momentum continued as Jack Citrone earned a win in number five singles, winning 6-3, 6-2. Lawrence earned his second win of the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-2 win in number six singles to move Saint Vincent's lead to 7-0.
 
The Bearcats final two wins of the afternoon came in number two and three singles. Sadusky finished first in number three singles, with a 6-3, 6-4 win to earn his second victory of the afternoon.
 
Saint Vincent clinched the clean sweep as Brian Lee won in number two singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win to close out the impressive victory.
 
SVC returns to action on Tuesday, March 26, as they play host to Allegheny in a big President's Athletic Conference match. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the SVC Courts.
