HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 7) – The Saint Vincent College women's tennis team concluded its most successful season in more than a decade with a 9-0 victory over Lancaster Bible College.
With the win, the Bearcats conclude the season with a 12-6 overall record, marking their most wins in a campaign since the 2012-13 Presidents' Athletic Conference champion squad finished 15-5.
The Bearcats opened the morning by sweeping all three doubles matches, with the top pairing of
Marisa Hooper and
Rachel Zgurich winning by an 8-6 score, and the No. 2 tandem of
Carolina Walters and
Emily Pierce winning 8-5. The third pairing of
Abby Donnelly and
Bella Baumgardner won by forfeit.
With her doubles victory, Walters claimed her 50th career combined win, joining her teammate Donnelly, who achieved the milestone a day earlier.
Rebecca Kurylo earned a forfeit win at No. 6 singles to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead, before Zgurich sealed the Bearcat victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Walters then promptly picked up her 51st victory with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Donnelly cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4,
Julia Runk won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, and Pierce battled to a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win at No. 3 to close out the 9-0 shutout for Saint Vincent.
The win was Saint Vincent's sixth 9-0 victory of the season, and improved the Bearcats to a perfect 3-0 in their abbreviated spring campaign.
