Baseball falls to Rowan in Davenport

DAVENPORT, Fla. (Mar. 8)- The Saint Vincent baseball team was defeated by 16th ranked Rowan, 11-1 in an eight-inning shortened ten-run rule game.

The Bearcats (0-5) hung around with the nationally ranked Profs (3-1) as they trailed just 1-0 through four and a half innings. Rowan went on to score eight runs between the fifth and sixth innings and added two more in the ninth to enforce the ten-run rule.

Saint Vincent was limited to just one run on three hits, while Rowan on the other hand recorded 11 runs on 12 hits, while also making an error.

Tyler Dancu took the loss on the mound for the Bearcats as he pitched five innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits, while striking out eight batters and walking four.

Dylan Schmude, Jacob Auld, and Derek Hald were the three Bearcats to record hits. Devin Bonine recorded the lone RBI for SVC in the loss.

Rowan got on the board first after an RBI-double by Anthony Schooley in the first inning put the Profs up 1-0. Dancu escaped multiple jams with runners in scoring position over the next couple of innings as the score remained a 1-0 game through four and a half.

Rowan added three more in the fifth, two of which came on Dylan Maria's first of three two run-homers in the game as the Profs pushed their lead to 4-0. Rowan added five more in the sixth, two of which again came on a Maria two-run shot.

Bonined added his RBI-groundout, scoring Hald in the eighth but Rowan ended it with Maria's third two-run homer of the game, enforcing the ten-run rule.

Saint Vincent has a quick turnaround as they take on Anna Maria, in a makeup game tonight, March 8 at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
