GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 20) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team lead wire-to-wire in its 17-3 road win over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel College.
Ten different players scored at least one goal while 12 recorded at least one point for the Bearcats (6-8, 4-2 PAC), who picked up their second straight win, and sixth in their last eight games.
Jordan Billet led the potent Bearcat offense with seven points, on four goals and three assists, while
Justin Wodarek recorded a career-high six points, on three goals and three helpers.
Carter Haid continued his hot stretch with four points, on one goal and three assists, while
Liam McCall and
Caleb Hawkins each notched three-point days, with two goals and one assist apiece.
RJ Kenna,
Max Radcliffe,
Eli Hartle,
Luke Hartle and
Hayden Nowotarski rounded out the goal-scorers for the Bearcats.
Brady Beard registered a team-high seven ground balls, thanks to a strong 11-for-14 effort in the faceoff circle.
AJ Bricker collected three ground balls and paced the SVC defense with two caused turnovers.
Garrett Ritts started and played the first 46 minutes in goal, recording eight saves to earn the win.
Bryan Millward came on in relief to play the bulk of the fourth quarter and saved both shots-on-goal that he faced.
McCall staked SVC out to an early 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the opening quarter, and the Bearcats kept the momentum, with haid, Hawkins and Billet each scoring over the next four minutes to extend the advantage to 4-0, which is how it would stand at the close of the quarter.
The first 6:30 of the second quarter were scoreless, before Bennett Medyn put the Tomcats on the board with 8:25 left in the half. Less than 30 seconds later, Hawkins' man-up goal put SVC in front 5-1, before Billet and Wodarek added goals over the final six minutes of the quarter to stake SVC to a 7-1 lead at the break.
The Bearcats put the game away for good by outscoring the Tomcats 8-1 over the third quarter to take a commanding 15-2 lead. Billet and Wodarek scored two goals over the decisive frame, and Kenna,
Luke Hartle, Nowotarski and McCall once, with Kenna's a man-down goal.
In the fourth quarter, Ritts and Millward combined for three saves, while
Eli Hartle and Radcliffe added insurance goals, as the Bearcats cruised down the stretch.
For the game, Saint Vincent outshot Thiel 46-30, gathered 33 ground balls to Thiel's 21, and was a perfect 27-for-27 on clears. The Bearcats also successfully killed off all six of Thiel's man-up opportunities, and have now killed off 12 straight over their past two games.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, April 24, opening up a pivotal final week of the regular season with a 7 p.m. battle at PAC foe Washington & Jefferson.
