Men's tennis advances in PAC Tournament

LATROBE, Pa. (April 23) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team opened the 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament with a 5-2 victory in the quarterfinals over visiting Geneva College.

The third-seeded Bearcats improved to 15-6 on the season, tying a single-season program record for wins, and will now move on to the PAC semifinals at No. 2 Grove City on Thursday, April 25.

Along with extending their season, the Bearcats also exacted some revenge on the Golden Tornadoes, who defeated SVC by a 5-4 score three days prior in Latrobe.

The Bearcats fell into an early 1-0 hole after falling at No. 1 doubles, before the No. 2 tandem of freshmen Braden Yokopenic and Josh Havrilla evened the match with an 8-5 win.

SVC's No. 3 pairing of Jack Citrone and August Lawrence fell behind by scores of 3-1 and 6-5, before rallying to capture the final three games and earn an 8-6 win to put the hosts in front 2-1 heading into singles play.

Lawrence earned the Bearcats' third win of the afternoon by taking the No. 6 singles match by a 6-1, 6-2 score, before Matthew Sadusky put SVC in front 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

The GTs claimed the No. 1 singles match, before Citrone clinched the match victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5.

The Bearcats will now prep for their third trip to the PAC semifinals in as many seasons, and will be gunning for their second-ever trip to the PAC title match.
