STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Apr. 6)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a PAC doubleheader at Franciscan University on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (4-16, 2-4 PAC) fell in game one by a score of 11-10 and followed that up with a 9-0 win over Franciscan (3-12, 1-5 PAC).

GAME 1- Franciscan 11, SVC 10
Â
Saint Vincent trailed 6-0 after the first inning, but after a five-run second inning, the Bearcats climbed back into the game. The Barons answered with three in the third, before SVC got one of those runs back in the fourth.

The Bearcats outscored the Barons 4-3 over the final two innings, but Franciscan walked it off in the bottom of the ninth to hand Saint Vincent the 11-10 defeat.

Three Bearcats totaled two hits in the opening game, while two of those players also recorded three RBIs as well.
L.J. Evans went 2-5 with 3 RBIs as did
Jacob Auld. One of Auld's hits was a solo homer that got Saint Vincent on the board in the second inning.

Dylan Schmude also had two hits in his four at-bats, while he also scored three runs and knocked in one RBI.
Â
Alex Hess and
Billy Perroz each added a hit apiece, while Perroz had two RBIs and Hess had one.
Devin Bonine,
Anthony D'Urso,
Derek Hald, and
Austin Tirpak added to the offense with one hit each for the Bearcats.

Tyler Dancu took the loss on the mound.
Cody May and
Andrew Stano were strong in relief for the Bearcats as well, each picking up a strikeout in their outing.

The Barons struck for six runs in the first to open up to a 6-0 lead. Saint Vincent responded with a five-run top of the second.

Auld got things started with a solo homerun, then Schmude reached on an RBI-infield single, scoring
Dalton Nicklow (6-2).
Â
Hess walked, scoring Hald and Evans followed with a two-RBI single, scoring both Schmude and Bonine to cut the lead to 6-5.

Franciscan went scoreless in the bottom of the second as did the Bearcats in the top of the third. The Barons scored twice in the bottom of third pushing their lead to three at 8-5.

The Bearcats answered as the offenses continued to stay hot. Evans singled in Schmude in the top of the fourth to cut the lead back to two at 8-6.

After a scoreless fifth and sixth innings, Franciscan added two more runs in the seventh, seeing their lead grow to four at 10-6.

The Bearcats wouldn't go down without a fight. In the eight, Auld added to his big day with a two-RBI single, cutting the lead to 10-8. SVC added two more runs in the ninth to tie it on Perroz's two-RBI single to left, scoring D'Urso and
J'Shawn Taylor.

However, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning an RBI-single to center won it for Franciscan.

Saint Vincent totaled ten runs on 13 hits, committing no errors in the opening game. Franciscan on the other hand scored their 11 runs on 15 hits, committing three errors.

GAME 2- SVC 9, Franciscan 0

In the second game of the doubleheader, it was all Saint Vincent. Bearcats' starter,
Jeremy Kreuzwieser tossed eight shutout innings, before
Alex Polito came in to complete the shutout for the Bearcats.

Kreuzwieser earned the win, pitching eight innings, allowing just three hits. He struck out 11 Barons and walked three as well.

Polito pitched a perfect inning in relief for the Bearcats.

Six Bearcats had a multi-hit game. Hess led the way with three hits and three RBIs in his five at-bats for Saint Vincent.

Schmude and D'Urso both picked up where they left off in game one with two hits at the top of the lineup. D'Urso also had two RBIs. Tirpak also had two hits and an RBI, while Perroz went 2-4 with two RBIs.

Evans also had two hits, while also scoring two runs. Hald and Auld each added one hit for the Bearcats as well.

After a scoreless first two innings, Hess got the scoring started for Saint Vincent with an RBI-single to center in the third, scoring Evans to give SVC a 1-0 lead.

The Bearcats weren't done in the inning, Tirpak followed with an RBI-double to left field, scoring Hess as Saint Vincent took a 2-0 lead. Perroz concluded the SVC scoring in the inning with a two-RBI single to left, scoring Tirpak and D'Urso to give Saint Vincent a 4-0 lead.

Saint Vincent added another run in the fourth on an RBI-double from D'Urso, scoring Schmude as the score moved to 5-0.

The SVC offense quieted down over the next four innings, before the Bearcats had a three-run eighth inning. Hald reached on an RBI-infield single, scoring Nicklow (6-0). Hess followed with an RBI-single to left field that scored Hald as the lead was 7-0.

SVC wasn't done, as D'Urso reached an RBI-infield single to shortstop, scoring Hess as the Bearcats lead was now 8-0.

Hess continued his big day with a single to center in the ninth, scoring Evans for an insurance run. Polito pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth, securing the win for Saint Vincent.

The Bearcats scored their nine runs on 15 hits. Franciscan on the other hand was shutout on three hits, while also committing two errors.
