Men's tennis earns road victory at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (April 6) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team continued its strong start to the season with a 6-3 victory at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Franciscan University.

The victory moves the Bearcats' record to 9-4 on the season, and 2-1 in PAC play.

The Bearcats opened the day in fine fashion by taking two of the three doubles matches. Saint Vincent's No. 2 pairing of Josh Havrilla and Braden Yokopenic claimed an 8-6 win, before August Lawrence and Jack Citrone teamed up for an 8-4 victory in the No. 3 spot.

Saint Vincent dropped the No. 1 and No. 2 singles decisions, but would then clinch the victory with wins in each of the third through sixth spots.

In the No. 3 position, Matthew Sadusky was victorious by a 6-2, 6-3 count, while Citrone also won in straight sets at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1.

Brady Johnson clinched the match victory with a three-set win at No. 4. He won the opening set, 7-5, before falling by a 6-2 score in the second set. After dropping the first game in the third set, he rattled off six straight points to take the set, 6-1.

The No. 6 singles bout was also a marathon three-setter, with Lawrence prevailing 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8).

Saint Vincent will now have a quick turnaround, returning to action on Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. PAC match at Westminster College.
