Men's soccer battles to season-opening draw on the road

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (Aug. 30) – The Saint Vincent men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Bridgewater College in its 2024 season-opener.

Cade Coldiron got the Bearcats (0-0-1) on the board in the 21st minute, deflecting a free kick from Giuseppe Loiacono off of a defender and into the goal to give SVC a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles (0-0-1) promptly tied the game with a breakaway goal less than a minute later, but after the quick flurry, both teams were held off the scoreboard over the final 69 minutes.

Bridgewater amassed 25 shots for the match and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks, but the Bearcat defense held strong, led by goalkeeper Kameron Rock. The junior made a career-high 11 saves, including eight in the second half and four over the final 18 minutes.

Five players were credited with shots for the Bearcats, with Bruno Hurtado taking a pair of attempts and Coldiron, Javier Torres, Riley Cassidy and Alfie Aldridge one apiece.

The Bearcats will be back on the road when they return to action, traveling to Muskingum on Tuesday, Sept. 3, for a 7 p.m. matchup.
