Men's Soccer Plays to Second Straight Draw

NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Sept. 3)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team played to their consecutive tie to open the season with a 0-0 result at Muskingum on Tuesday night in non-conference action.
 
The Bearcats (0-0-2) had a couple of opportunities to score against Muskingum (1-1-1) late in the game but were unable to find the back of the net.
 
Despite not being able to score any goals, the Bearcats still outshot Muskingum 6-5 on shots on goal. The Muskies recorded 16 shots overall in comparison to Saint Vincent's 15 total shots.
 
Kameron Rock was strong for the Bearcats for the second straight contest. He played all 90 minutes in net, recording five saves for Saint Vincent.
 
Bruno Hurtado led the Bearcats offensively with two shots on goal, while Mattia Speretta recorded two shots, neither of which were recorded as on goal. Oziel Bonola-Soriano totaled three shots for SVC as well, while Cade Coldiron tallied a shot on goal as well.
 
Coming off the bench, Jayden Gyan recorded a shot on goal for the Bearcats. Giuseppe Loiacono's lone shot for SVC was recorded on goal as well.
 
It was a defensive led and scoreless opening 45 minutes of play between the Bearcats and the Muskies. Both teams had opportunities in their offensive zones, but neither was able to put any balls past both goal keepers.
 
Muskingum outshot the Bearcats 8-6 in the half, but SVC recorded three shots on goal, in comparison to two from the Muskies.
 
The Bearcats were called for offsides three separate times in the opening half as well. Muskingum had two corner kicks compared to one from SVC. Rock was strong in the half as well, picking up two saves.
 
It was a much more active second half, especially late in the half, but still neither team was able to find the back of the net.
 
After a relatively quiet first 35 minutes of the second half, the Bearcats best opportinites came in the 81st and 82nd minutes. A string of three straight shots were stopped inside the crease by Muskingum goalie Evan Laraba.
 
First, Hurtado had a good luck inside, followed by Coldiron on the rebound and then Speretta's shot was blocked before the Muskies cleared to avoid any more of a threat by SVC.
 
Muskingum sent a ball from about 35 yards out with 20 seconds to play, but Rock once again came up big stopping the shot to seal the tie for Saint Vincent.
 
Corner kicks were 4-1 in favor of the Muskies, including 2-0 in the second half. Both teams recorded nine fouls over the course of the match as well.
 
The Bearcats will look for their first win of the year as they take on Carlow in the home opener on Saturday, September 7. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at UPMC Field on Saturday afternoon.
