Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer moves to 4-1 with decisive victory

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 11) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team got off to a fast start and never looked back in its 5-1 victory over visiting Mount Aloysius under the lights at UPMC Field.

The victory moves the Bearcats to 4-1 on the young season, their best start since 2012. Mount Aloysius dropped to 0-3-1 with the loss.

Madisen Geesaman scored two goals, Emma Koller had a goal and an assist, Jude Galvin notched two assists, and Kyra Smith and Tanisha Grewal each found the net once as the Bearcats dominated possession throughout, out-shooting the Mounties by a 27-6 margin.

Saint Vincent wasted little time in gaining the lead, as Geesaman scored the game's first goal just 80 seconds into regulation, banging home a corner kick through traffic on the doorstep to make it 1-0.

The Mounties scored their lone goal of the game in the 24th minute, when Grace O'Berry bent a free kick from 25 yards out into the upper corner of the net to tie the game.

Three minutes later, the Bearcats regained the lead for good. Galvin broke toward the goal untouched, and fed a perfect pass through the goal mouth to Koller, who quickly controlled it and blasted it home to give SVC a 2-1 lead with 17:58 remaining in the half.

Smith gave the Bearcats some insurance late in the half, scoring on a rocket from 10 yards out to make it 3-1 with just over five minutes left.

The score would stand at 3-1 through halftime, before the Bearcats closed out the game's scoring with two goals in a three-minute span.

In the 53rd minute, Koller drove toward the corner and sent a quick pass into the middle of the box which was promptly directed into the goal by Geesaman for her second goal of the night.

Three minutes later, Grewal put an exclamation mark on the victory. Galvin streaked down the middle of the field untouched and sent a lead pass toward the box to Grewal, who broke through the defense and scored on a breakaway to make it 5-1 and account for the final score.

Nine different players were credited with shots for the Bearcats, led by eight attempts from Grewal and five from Koller.

Rilyn Warner started and played the first 58 minutes in goal before giving way to Madison Arnold, who recorded one save over the final 32 minutes.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14, traveling to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to take on Penn College in a 1 p.m. non-conference bout.
