Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Penn State-Altoona

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 12)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team fell to Penn State-Altoona by 1-0 margin on Thursday night.

Despite Saint Vincent (1-2-2) outshooting Penn State-Altoona (1-3) by a 24-5 margin, a goal in the 65th minute from the Lions turned out to be the difference maker in the 1-0 loss for the Bearcats.

A few different Bearcats recorded multiple shots on goal over the course of the contest. Javier Torres led the way with four of those shots, while Oziel Bonola-Soriano added three shots on goal of his own.

Bruno Hurtado and Alfie Aldridge both tallied two shots on goal each. Javier Tinoco, Antonio Mendes, Chris Deane, and Kevin Amouzou all added one shot on goal each. Grant Archuleta took the loss in net, making one save, while also allowing the lone goal.

It was a scoreless first half dominated by the Bearcats in their offensive end. Saint Vincent outshot the Lions by a 15-0 margin in the opening half, but were unable to capitalize on opportunities in front of the net as the game was still scoreless at the half. SVC had four corner kicks in comparison to none from Penn State-Altoona.

It was much of the same story in the second half. One of the few times Penn State-Altoona carried it into their offensive zone, Bailey Musselman scored a header goal on a pass in from Frank Kasperowicz, which ended up being the difference maker.

The Bearcats had a couple more opportunities, outshooting Altoona by a 9-5 margin in the half, but the Lions held strong to hand the Bearcats their second consecutive defeat.

Sasha Mohoruk was a critical piece to the Lions win as he picked up the win in net, making an impressive 16 saves.

Fouls were fairly even over the course of the contest as SVC committed 14 fouls, compared to 13 from Penn State-Altoona. Shots on goal were a lopsided 16-2 in favor of Saint Vincent. Corner kicks were also lopsided with the Bearcats getting eight, in comparison to two from the Lions.

The Bearcats have another quick turnaround as Penn College comes to town on Saturday, September 14 for SVC's third non-conference match of the week. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field on Saturday.
