Bearcats Play to 1-1 Tie Against Penn College

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 14)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team used a late second half goal to play to a 1-1 tie against Penn College at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats' (1-2-3) Javier Torres put in the equalizer in the 82nd minute allowing the Bearcats to play to a 1-1 tie with Penn (2-2-1), who had scored earlier in the half for the Wildcats.

Torres' game tying goal for the Bearcats was his third of the season and second goal this week. Oziel Bonola-Soriano assisted on SVC's lone goal of the afternoon. The Bearcats totaled just nine shots as a team, with five of them being on goal, one of those was Torres' goal.

Cade Coldiron, Jack Billick, and Bruno Hurtado all recorded a shot on goal in the tie for Saint Vincent as well. Along with his assist, Bonola-Soriano recorded two shots, with one being on goal.

Kameron Rock played all 90 minutes in net for Saint Vincent, making one save while also allowing the lone goal from the Wildcats.

It was a very back-and-forth first half at UPMC Field, with lots of play at midfield for both teams. Both teams had opportunities to score, but neither capitalized as the game remained scoreless at the half.

Penn tallied four shots in the half, while the Bearcats had two shots of their own.

The Wildcats got off to a quick start in the second half. Logan Stapleton scored the first goal of the game on an assist from Mason Kostick to give Penn the 1-0 lead.

That 1-0 lead would hold for the majority of the second half, until Torres scored the equalizer in the 85th minute. Torres headed a ball in from Bonola-Soriano to tie the game at 1-1 with just over seven minutes to play.

Both teams got the ball in their offensive end, with Penn having the final scoring chance of the game. The Wildcats shot sailed high over the goal as the Bearcats survived with a 1-1 tie.

Shots were dead even with each team recording nine shots. However, Saint Vincent tallied five shots on goal, compared to just two from the Wildcats. Corner kicks were 4-2 in favor of the Bearcats.

Fouls were also even at 9-9.

The Bearcats return to action on Tuesday, September 17 when they travel to Cresson to take on Mount Aloysius. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
