Labuda, Williams earn PAC honors

TRAFFORD, Pa. (Sept. 16) – Two Saint Vincent College student-athletes have been honored with Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly accolades for action the week of Sept. 9.

Sophomore Robbie Labuda (Acme, Pa./Mount Pleasant) was selected the league's Football Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Meegan Williams (Homer City, Pa./Homer-Center) was tabbed the PAC Women's Volleyball Newcomer of the Week.

This marks the first PAC weekly accolade for both Labuda and Williams.

Labuda had a big hand in the Bearcats' big 41-20 victory at Allegheny College. The second-year safety tallied three tackles while also picking off two interceptions. His first pick came early in the second quarter and led directly to the Bearcats' fourth touchdown of the half. On the final play of the third quarter, he would make even more of a splash, stepping in front of a pass on the Allegheny 40 and returning it untouched into the end zone for SVC's sixth touchdown of the day, and the first of Labuda's career. He became just the 11th player in the team's modern era (2007-present) to tally two interceptions in a game, while his pick-six was SVC's first since Nov. 13, 2021, when Ahmad Shaw also notched a 40-yard touchdown return in the Bearcats' win over Bethany.

Williams helped lead the SVC women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday. The rookie outside hitter tallied a 10-kill, 15-dig double-double, while she also added one block and one service ace. The 10 kills came with just three attack errors, as she racked up a .318 hitting percentage in the win. Through just eight career matches at the collegiate level, Williams has recorded four double-doubles (kills-digs), while it marked the fifth time this season that she had nine or more kills and the sixth time in which she reached double figures in digs. She has started all eight matches and is averaging 2.95 kills and 3.42 digs.

Labuda and the SVC team will welcome defending PAC champ Grove City to Chuck Noll Field for this Saturday's 1 p.m. matchup, while Williams and the women's volleyball team have a busy week ahead, playing host to La Roche on Wednesday, Sept. 18, before competing in a pair of matches on Friday at Grove City and two more on Saturday at Westminster.
