Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio (Sept. 20)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on the road at Hiram in a non-conference match on Friday night.
 
The Bearcats (1-3-4) allowed a goal early in the opening half, before shutting out Hiram (1-3-2) the rest of the night. Mattia Speretta scored for SVC just over six minutes into the seconf half to tie the match and that 1-1 score would remain throughout.
 
Shots were fairly even over the course of the contest with the Bearcats slightly outshooting Hiram by a 20-15 margin, including 6-5 in shots on goal.
 
Along with his goal, Speretta tallied seven total shots with four of those shots being on goal.
 
Will LaBruno and Nick Johnson recorded the Bearcats other two shots on goal during the draw. Kameron Rock played all 90 minutes in net, making four saves, while allowing the lone Hiram goal.
 
Oziel Bonola-Soriano added three shots for Saint Vincent, while Antonio Mendes recorded two for the Bearcats as well.
 
It was a quick start for the Terriers as Erik Rangel Negrete scored just under five minutes into the match, giving Hiram and early 1-0 lead. However, the Bearcats didn't let the goal hurt their momentum.
 
They played the rest of the first 45 fairly even as Hiram narrowly outshot them 7-5 in the half. Hiram committed nine fouls, compared to just three in the half for SVC.
 
In the second off, the opposite happened. This half, the Bearcats netted a goal just over six minutes into the half. Speretta found the back of the net in the 51st minute to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Bearcats controlled for the ball for most of the second half. Speretta had a second opportunity in the 89th minute with just 17 seconds remaining to score, but Hiram goalie Tyler Jurgensen made the save to secure the 1-1 draw.
 
The Bearcats outshot Hiram by a 15-8 margin in the second half.
 
Over the course of the match, the Bearcats recorded four corner kicks compared to two from the Terriers. Hiram committed 15 fouls during the tie, while Saint Vincent committed just eight.
 
The Bearcats will now begin their PAC slate as they travel to Franciscan on Tuesday, September 24. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Steubenville.
