MEDIA, Pa. (Sept. 21) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team opened its 2024-25 campaign in impressive fashion with a 7-0 shutout at Penn State-Brandywine.
The Bearcats got off to a fast start, sweeping doubles competition to earn the doubles point. After Saint Vincent's No. 3 pairing of
Anthony Sparta and
Brian Lee won by forfeit,
Jack Citrone and
Braden Yokopenic teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and the No. 2 pairing of
August Lawrence and
Deven Summers claimed a 6-1 victory.
Saint Vincent would then go 6-0 in singles competition.
Matthew Sadusky earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while
August Lawrence picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 and
Brady Johnson breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 blanking at No. 3.
J.T. Gockel outlasted Elias Danesh for a 6-0, 7-6, 10-8 win at No. 4, while Sparta earned his first singles win as a Bearcat with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 5. The sweep was completed by
William Hinkson, who won by forfeit at No. 6.
Saint Vincent will wrap up its weekend road swing with a 12:30 p.m. match at McDaniel College on Sunday, Sept. 22.
