Men's soccer edged at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 27) – The Saint Vincent men's soccer team was defeated, 2-1, at Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference Friday night matchup under the lights at Alumni Stadium

Saint Vincent (1-5-4, 0-2 PAC) out-shot Thiel (5-1, 1-0) by a 14-12 margin and held an 8-2 margin in corner kicks, but was unable to recover from a pair of Thiel goals scored in the opening stages of the second half.
 
In the first half, Saint Vincent held the edge in possession, outshooting Thiel 7-3 and taking five corner kicks, but was kept off the board.

After SVC keeper Kameron Rock made two big saves in the opening minutes of the second half, the Tomcats would score the game's first goal in the 49th minute when Carson Maurer scored off of a corner kick. Thiel added an insurance marker 12 minutes later, with Hunter Blatt's goal making it 2-0 with 28 minutes left in regulation.
 
Oziel Bonola-Soriano got the Bearcats on the board in the 79th minute with an unassisted goal, hist first of the season. The Bearcats would then tally three shots and two corner kicks over the game's final 10 minute but were unable to break through with the equalizer.
 
Kelvin Aguilar-Contreras took five of the Bearcats' 14 shots on the evening, while Bonola-Soriano was credited with four attempts.
 
Rock went the distance in goal, recording four saves.
 
Having played five consecutive road contests, the Bearcats will return home for the first time in three weeks on Tuesday, Oct. 1, resuming PAC play with a 7 p.m. match against Bethany College under the lights at UPMC Field.
