Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer cruises past Carlow, 4-1

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 7) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in its 4-1 victory over non-conference foe Carlow University on the UPMC Field Turf.

The victory moves the Bearcats to 3-1 on the season, while Carlow falls to 0-1-1.

The Bearcats controlled play from the outset, outshooting the Celtics 37-4 and taking each of the match's 10 corner kicks.

Madisen Geesaman got the Bearcats on the board in the 15th minute when she picked up a deflected free kick from Tanisha Grewal and buried it in the back of the goal.

The Bearcats wasted little time in adding insurance, as Emma Koller scored her second of the season when she took a pass from Jordan Kirkwood and made an uncontested run to the goal, blasting it into the lower corner to make it 2-0.

Saint Vincent continued to press over the remainder of the half, and added its third goal with just under five minutes left in the half. Giovanna Ferraro collected the ball in the middle third of the field and sent a long pass into the attacking zone. Kataira Rhodes won a footrace to the ball and rolled it past the keeper for her first career score.

The Celtics broke the shutout bid midway through the second half, when Tianna Torles scored on a free kick from 20 yards out, before the Bearcats regained control down the stretch. Geesaman added the exclamation point to the victory with her second goal of the game, assisted by Koller, with 9:20 left in regulation to account for the final score.

Rilyn Warner started in goal and played the first 80:40, making a pair of saves, before giving way to Madison Arnold, who did face a shot over the final 9:20.

Eight different players recorded at least two shots for the Bearcats, led by a 14-shot performance by Grewal. Geesaman had five shots, while Rhodes and Koller were each credited with four apiece.

The Bearcats will return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, hosting Mount Aloysius under the UPMC Field lights.
