INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The Saint Vincent women's bowling team opened the Spring semester with a victory in the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic, held at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg. Saint Vincent took first among nine competing schools.
The Bearcats opened the day with a team score of 880, an average of 176.
Mareana Pilyih had the top score with a 204, followed by
Skyy Nicholls (186) and
Sabine Strickland (181). After the first game, the team was in second place, one pin behind the University of Rio Grande (881).
In game two, the Bearcats got off to a fast start and never looked back, setting two school records in the process. The team had either a strike or spare in 31 consecutive frames, a record for a Traditional game, and finished with a team total of 1060, which was another school record for a single team game.
Kaylie Kurland had the top score (234), followed by Pilyih (223),
Daphne Stuber (213), Strickland (210) and Nicholls (180). The score boosted SVC into first, and the team held the top spot the remainder of the day.
The final Traditional game of the day resulted in a 912 score (182 average) for the team, with Strickland's 199 leading a consistent charge. Kurland was second-best with a 182.
Up next were three blocks of Baker team games, with each block consisting of four games. The Bearcats averaged 185 over the 12 games, with their best effort coming in the last block, with a 783 total (195.7 average). The team's final game of the set was its highest, 218.
In Baker play, SVC was led by Stuber, who averaged 206.3. Nicholls was second at 204.3, followed by
Lexi Pilyih (191.8).
Two Bearcats were named to the All-Tournament team with top-5 finishes in the Traditional games.
Mareana Pilyih was third overall in the field with an average of 202, while Strickland was fifth, at 196.7. Kurland just missed making the top-5, averaging 195 for a sixth place finish. SVC's
Shelby Frick, competing for the JV team, finished 10th overall in the field, which combined varsity and JV, averaging 183.
SVC had the top team score for the day, averaging 187.8, while the University of Rio Grande finished second, at 180.3.
The team will be back in action on Sunday morning at Hillview, hosting the Western PA Baker Shootout tournament starting at 9AM.
