Maddock's second half goal lifts men's soccer past W&J

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 15)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team defeated Washington and Jefferson by a 1-0 final score on Wednesday evening in Washington.

The Bearcats (10-2-3, 4-1-2 PAC) freshman forward Daniel Maddock continued his impressive freshman season, scoring the difference maker for SVC in the 64th minute.

Oziel Bonola-Soriano, Cameron Mulvanny, Jack Billick, Bruno Hurtado, and Jaden Gyan all tallied one shot on goal each for Saint Vincent, while Maddock recorded four his own, one of which included the lone goal of the game.

In the first half, both teams had opportunities to score as the Presidents hit the cross bar early in the game. However, the final 15 minutes of the half belonged to SVC as the Bearcats recorded multiple scoring opportunities, but was not able to find the back of the net as the game went to the half as a 0-0 tie.

SVC controlled the pace of play for the entirety of the second half beginning early on. The Bearcats attack on offense continued and Maddock found the back of the net about 20 minutes into the half to give SVC a 1-0 lead.

Saint Vincent had more opportunities to add to their lead, but the one goal was all they needed to down W&J for the first time since 2022.

W&J led in corner kicks by a 7-3 clip.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, October 18 with a home matchup against Westminster. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at UPMC Field with senior day festivities taking place prior to the game.
