Football falls to W&J at home

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 18)- The Saint Vincent football team fell to Washington and Jefferson by a score of 56-10 in a Presidents Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Latrobe.

The Bearcats (2-5, 1-4 PAC) kept it close in the opening quarter against the conference leading Presidents (4-2, 4-0 PAC) only trailing 7-3, but W&J outscored them 49-7 the rest of the way.

Defensively, Keegan O'Brien set a Saint Vincent single-game record with 20 total tackles, nine of which were solo tackles. O'Brien breaks Nathan Parker's record of 18 tackles in a game, set during week one against Hilbert. Parker totaled eight tackles, including six solo tackles in the game against W&J.

Robbie Labuda added 12 tackles, including six solo tackles and Tyler Harpst picked up eight tackles of his own. 

Jonathan Puddie added a sack and Patrick Connolly picked off one pass for SVC.

Julian Walker was solid for the Bearcats, rushing 14 times for 50 yards, scoring Saint Vincent's lone touchdown of the afternoon. Walker also caught three passes for 74 yards.

Matthew Davis added eight carries for 51 yards and Gino Caesar rushed the ball six times for 47 yards for the Bearcats. Chris Downs added four catches for 56 yards and Tristan Doy caught three passes for 50 yards. Jake Phillips completed 11 passes for 186 yards.

W&J outgained the Bearcats 510-332 over the course of the game. The Presidents were an impressive 9-12 on third downs, while Saint Vincent was 5-15 on their end and 1-4 on fourth down.

The Bearcats will now have their bye week, before returning to action on Saturday, November 1 with a PAC road matchup at Grove City. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Grove City.
