LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 25)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team earned a 2-0 shut out victory against Chatham in the Bearcats home regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
Saint Vincent (13-3-1, 7-2-1 PAC) used two early first half goals to lift them past the Cougars, locking up their spot in next weekend's PAC playoffs.
Emma Koller and
Jordan Kirkwood scored the two goals for the Bearcats.
Cori Bieber picked up an assist on Kirkwood's goal as well.
Rilyn Warner recorded seven saves in the Saint Vincent shutout.
Kyra Smith and
Madisen Geesaman both added a shot on goal for SVC, along with two from Koller and the one from Kirkwood.
The Bearcats began the game in a solid fashion. Driving it into their offensive end, Koller was fouled right by the goal, setting up a penalty kick. Koller buried the penalty kick in the eighth minute to put the Bearcats up 1-0.
Just under 20 minutes later, Kirkwood scored her seventh of the season on a corner kick from Bieber to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 2-0.
That 2-0 lead would hold going into the half and the entirety of the second half as SVC controlled the pace of play for the rest of the game, not allowing Chatham to climb back into the game.
Chatham outshot the Bearcats by an 11-10 margin, including 7-5 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 7-5 in favor of the Cougars as well.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, October 28, traveling to Allegheny for their regular season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Meadville on Tuesday night.
