MEADVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 25)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep against the defending Presidents Athletic Conference Champion Allegheny Gators on Saturday afternoon.
Saint Vincent (6-12, 5-7 PAC) took down the Gators (12-11, 6-6 PAC) by set scores of 30-28, 25-21, and 25-23.
Meegan Williams had a big day for Saint Vincent, recording 14 kills and 24 digs.
Dakota Hershberger added 12 kills and 16 digs of her own for the Bearcats as well.
Lauren Fox was big for SVC too, recording 12 kills and seven blocks for Saint Vincent.
Bailey Green added 16 assists and 10 digs, while
Sani Jones recorded a match high 22 assists. Jones also added four blocks, while
Vivian Wirth totaled three blocks of her own.
It was a back-and-forth opening set as the set was tied 24-24 in the later portions. The set continued to be tight as the teams were tied at 28-28. Saint Vincent scored the next two points to win the marathon set (30-28) on a Gators attack error and kill from Wirth to put SVC up 1-0.
Allegheny jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the second set, but SVC responded in a big way. Saint Vincent scored the next 11 points in the set, to gain an 18-16 lead. Allegheny cut the lead to one at 22-21, before three straight Bearcat points won the set (25-21) on kills from Wirth and Hershberger mixed between a Gators attack error, giving SVC a commanding 2-0 lead.
After a back-and-forth early portion of the final set, SVC shut the Gators down to earn the win. With Allegheny leading 22-21 in the set, Saint Vincent scored four of the final five points on two kills from Williams and a couple of Gator attack errors to win the set (25-23) and the match 3-0.
SVC out-blocked Allegheny 10-7 in the victory. They also recorded 77 digs in comparison to Allegheny's 72. Kills were 44-37 and assists were 40-36, both in favor of SVC as well.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, October 28 with a road PAC matchup at Franciscan. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Steubenville on Tuesday night.
