WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 8)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep in a Presidents Athletic Conference matchup at Waynesburg on Wednesday.
Saint Vincent (4-9, 3-4 PAC) took the Yellow Jackets in straight sets, all three by scores of 25-22.
Meegan Williams led Saint Vincent with another double-double, recording 12 kills and 13 digs.
Bailey Green added 18 assists for SVC, while
Brenna McCracken recorded 13 digs.
Dakota Hershberger added eight kills and six digs.
Vivian Wirth led Saint Vincent with four blocks, while
Lauren Fox added five kills, three service aces, and two blocks for the Bearcats.
Waynesburg took the opening advantage in the first set as they held a slight 8-5 lead. Saint Vincent stormed back to regain a 14-13 lead after a 9-6 run. The back-and-forth set continued as Waynesburg regained the lead at 22-21. However, SVC scored the final four points in the set, three of which came on Waynesburg attack errors and one came on a kill from Williams to win the set for SVC (25-22), giving the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
Once again, the Yellow Jackets led early in the second set. This time Waynesburg held an 11-6 lead. SVC stormed back to cut the lead to 17-16 in the middle portions of the set. Waynesburg still held a slight lead at 21-19. Once again though, Saint Vincent used a late run to win the set. This time it was a 6-1 run with two of those points coming on kills from Wirth and Fox to win the set for SVC (25-22) and they took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set went back-and-forth as the score was tied 13-13. The set remained tied at 19-19 and 22-22. Saint Vincent scored the final three points in the set, including the final two points coming on kills from Hershberger to win the set (25-22) and the match 3-0.
Saint Vincent led Waynesburg in blocks (6-3) and aces by a 7-6 margin over the course of the match.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, October 11 as they play host to Geneva in a PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in the Robert S. Carey Center.
