LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 8)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team earned a 1-0 Presidents Athletic Conference victory against Geneva on Wednesday night in Latrobe.
The victory for the Bearcats (9-2-2, 3-1-1 PAC) is Saint Vincent's first victory against Geneva since October of 2008.Â
In what looked to be in route to a 0-0 draw,
Bruno Hurtado scored the game-winning goal for SVC in the 78th minute. Hurtado's goal came on an assist from freshman
Daniel Maddock.
Kameron Rock picked up the shutout victory in net for the Bearcats, making three critical saves.
Cameron Mulvanny led Saint Vincent in the win with four total shots, including three of which were shots on goal. Jaden Gyan also added a shot on goal for the Bearcats as well.
It was a fairly evenly played opening half. Saint Vincent had the bulk of the scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net as the game went to the half tied 0-0. SVC outshot Geneva 3-1 in the opening half of play.
In the second half, it was much of the same story. SVC led the scoring opportunities in the early to middle portions of the half as the game looked to be headed for a scoreless draw. However, Maddock found Hurtado and Hurtado put the ball in the top right corner of the net to give SVC the 1-0 lead with just over 12 minutes to play.
Geneva had a couple of late opportunities to score, but Rock and the Saint Vincent defense held strong to secure the big PAC win for the Bearcats.
SVC outshot the GT's by an 8-6 margin, including 5-3 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 6-3 in favor of Saint Vincent as well.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, October 11 with a road matchup at Waynesburg. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Waynesburg on Saturday night.
