Men's basketball downs Penn State-Du Bois

LATROBE, Pa. (Nov. 14) – The Saint Vincent men's basketball team put together its most dominant performance of the young season on Thursday night, surging past Penn State Du Bois by a 104-49 final inside the Robert S. Carey Center.

The win keeps the Bearcats perfect at 3-0, while the visiting Lions drop to 0-2.

Saint Vincent seized control immediately, using its pressure defense and transition speed to create separation. The Bearcats forced 23 Du Bois turnovers in the opening stretch alone, converting those mistakes into 29 points and building a 44-21 halftime lead.

SVC continued to dictate the pace in the second half, outscoring the Lions 60-28 while shooting over 53 percent from the field for the game.

Offensively, the Bearcats were balanced and efficient from start to finish. Mike Iuzzolino led the way with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a trio of three-pointers, while Jaden Gales posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Duncan Spalding delivered one of the night's most impressive efforts, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor to finish with 14 points and nine boards, and Terek Crosby added 11 points with four rebounds as the Bearcats showcased their depth.

Saint Vincent dominated the paint with 66 points inside and controlled the transition game with 27 fast-break points. The Bearcats also finished 14-of-20 at the free-throw line, continuing to capitalize on their aggressive style of play.

Defensively, SVC held the Lions to just 16-of-61 shooting (26 percent) and 4-of-21 from beyond the arc. Penn State Du Bois' lone consistent spark was Ashton Fortson, who scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds, but the Lions struggled to sustain offense against the Bearcats' length and activity.

Saint Vincent never trailed at any point in the contest, leading wire-to-wire.

The Bearcats return to action next week as they continue their early-season non-conference slate as they travel to Hood on Saturday, November 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
