FREDONIA, N.Y. (Nov. 21)- The Saint Vincent College (SVC) men's swim team starts at the Blue Devil Invitational with day one of competition.
The Bearcats competed in both preliminary and final rounds of individual events and only did relays at night during finals. Friday started off tame with the 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley (IM), and 50 Freestyle for individual events and the 200 Freestyle and 400 Medley relays.
The men walked into the meet seeded second. After an exciting day one they stand in second place.
During the finals-only relays, the Bearcats dominated. The 200 Freestyle relay was up first and did not come to play. SVC raced three relays but predictably the A-relay consisting of Jacob Dzurica, Alex Leskovansky, Maxwell Huck, and Liam Randolph placed the highest in second place (1:25.88).
They competed just as well in the 400 Medley relay with the A-relay finishing second with a (3:28.28) and was made up of Dzurica, Randolph, William Schauss, and Evan Zeni.
In the first individual event, the 500 freestyle, the distance swimmers showed up to win. The team was represented by Jacob Bacasa, Schauss, and Gabe Yant.
Once again SVC was led by standout freshman Schauss in the 500. He eased into the A final and placed first overall (4:46.90).
Likewise, Bacasa and Yant both had impressive performances as well. Bacasa was placed into the B final and placed 12th (5:09.45) while Yant fell into 18th place and the C final (5:25.51).
After the 500, was the 200 IM. The Bearcats swam Joseph Borneman, Owen Echegaray, Giovanni Guido, Randolph, Christopher Shilaos, and Zeni in a stacked SVC event.
Randolph led the Bearcats to a second-place finish (1:58.32) with Guido and Zeni touching into a 5th and 6th place behind him (2:01.77) (2:03.39).
The 50-freestyle fell onto the shoulders of Soma Burt, Dzurica, Max Huck, Landon Kirkpatrick, and Leskovansky.
Dzurica was seeded first in this event and proved to be dominant taking home the gold. (19.84)
Second for the Bearcats was Leskovansky who overall 9th place. Huck and Kirkpatrick followed close behind in 11th (22.55) and 16th place (22.91).
The Bearcats will compete again both Saturday and Sunday to finish out the Blue Devil Invitational.
