FREDONIA, N.Y. (Nov. 23)- The Saint Vincent College (SVC) men's swim team wraps up swimming at the Blue Devil Invitational in day three of competition.
The Bearcats competed in both preliminary and final rounds of individual events and only did relays at night during finals. Sunday was the longest day for the team. They competed in the 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle, and 1650 Freestyle for individual events and the 400 Freestyle relay.
The men walked into day two of the meet in third place and ended the night finishing in third place. The night portion of competition started with the fastest and final heat of the mile, the 1650 Freestyle.
Gabe Yant swam in the B Final in the morning and finished 13th overall (19:07.59).
William Schauss and
Jacob Bacasa both swam at night touching into first and eighth respectively. (16:40.17) (17:37.75)
This final win for Schauss marked an undefeated individual event weekend for the freshman.
On the shorter side of events, the meet started both prelims and finals with the 200 Backstroke.
Giovanni Guido,
Christopher Shilaos, and
Anton Seifert competing for the Bearcats. Guido led the men finishing fourth (2:02.79). Shilaos finished eighth (2:08.07) with Seifert coming in at 13th (2:11.69).
The 100 Freestyle was next with a stacked SVC A final crew. Before the A final,
Soma Burt competed in the B final finishing 16th overall (50.82).
In the fastest heat,
Jacob Dzurica,
Alex Leskovansky,
Maxwell Huck, and
Evan Zeni. The men dominated this event and finished first, fourth, fifth, and seventh. (44.62) (48.84) (49.07) (49.77)
With Dzurica's third and final individual win he also achieved his third NCAA B cut in the process. Dzurica walks away from Fredonia undefeated, with two pool records, and with another NCAA cut under his belt.
Next, was the breaststroke event of the day which the 200. The men had three swimmers in this event,
Liam Randolph,
Landon Kirkpatrick, and
Joseph Borneman.
After getting sick of the taste of silver, Randolph grabbed his first gold of the weekend. He dominated the distance breaststroke event with a first-place finish and a new season best of 2:06.34. Kirkpatrick was close behind in fourth place with personal record of 2:15.37. Borneman slid into the A final and grabbed the eighth place (2:21.24).
To round out the stroke events for the weekend the Bearcats swam the 200 Butterfly.
Owen Echegaray and
Hayden Klein swam for the men.
Echegaray cemented the dominance of the Bearcat freshman class with a 1st place finish in the event. He swam a new personal record and went under the coveted two-minute mark,1:59.17. Klein also performed well with a sixth-place finish and a 2:07.70.
To end the night the 400 Freestyle relay was swam. The Bearcats swam an A, B, and C relay. The A Relay finished the fastest with a 2nd place and 3:08.07.
This marked the end of the Blue Devil Invite, and the mark of mid-season for the Bearcats!
