Football falls to Waynesburg on the road

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 8) – Saint Vincent fell on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 35-24 decision to Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
 
The Bearcats opened the game with a quick strike, as Matthew Davis broke free for a 25-yard touchdown run to give SVC a 7-0 lead.
 
Waynesburg responded with an eight-yard punt-return score and a short Carson Shriver run to move ahead 14-7, but Saint Vincent answered late in the first on a Jake Phillips 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Downs, tying the game 14-14.
 
A Justin Emeigh 44-yard field goal just before halftime gave the Bearcats a 17-14 advantage at the break. The 44-yard field goal was the second longest made field goal in program history.
 
Waynesburg turned the game around in the third quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points. Shriver added touchdown runs of one and 34 yards and Luke Hudson connected with Giovanni Cipoletti for a 19-yard score, putting the Yellow Jackets ahead 35-17. Saint Vincent cut into the lead in the fourth on another Phillips-to-Downs touchdown, this time from seven yards, but could not draw closer.
 
Phillips finished 27-of-41 for 322 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Davis ran 18 times for 126 yards and a score. Downs led all receivers with 10 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Robbie Labuda totaled 17 tackles, with Andrew Gelin adding a sack and Patrick Connolly recording an interception.
 
Saint Vincent out-gained Waynesburg 468–350 in total offense, including 322 through the air, but was hurt by three turnovers. Waynesburg was led by Shriver's 25 carries for 119 yards and 3 scores, while Hudson went 18-for-21 for 205 yards and a touchdown.
 
With the loss, the Bearcats drop to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in PAC play, while Waynesburg improves to 4-6 (4-4 PAC).

Saint Vincent will conclude the 2025 season on Saturday, Nov. 15, hosting Westminster for Senior Day at Chuck Noll Field, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
