BETHANY, W.Va. (Nov. 8) – The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team earned a four-set victory on the road in their regular season finale on Saturday, defeating Bethany College 3-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Saint Vincent won by set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, and 25-18.
Saint Vincent opened the match strong, using a balanced attack and tough serving to claim the first set, 25-19. The Bearcats held Bethany to a -.063 hitting percentage in the frame while forcing 11 Bison attack errors.
The Bearcats maintained control in the second set, recording 10 kills and hitting .150 as a team, while limiting Bethany to a .056 mark to take a 2-0 match lead with another 25-19 victory.
Bethany rallied in the third set, hitting .098 as a team to extend the match with a 25-20 win, before the Bearcats responded with a dominant fourth frame. Saint Vincent hit .238 with 15 kills in the final set, pulling away late to close out the match with a 25-18 decision.
Offensively, Meegan Williams led the Bearcats with 14 kills to go along with 25 digs, while Dakota Hershberger finished with 12 kills and Lauren Fox added 10 kills and a team-high seven total blocks. Sani Jones recorded 24 assists and 11 digs, while Aubrey Siwula added 21 digs and two service aces.
As a team, Saint Vincent finished with 46 kills, 43 assists, and 84 digs, while holding Bethany to just 33 kills and a .020 hitting percentage.
With the win, Saint Vincent conclude the regular season 9-14 overall and 7-9 in PAC play, while Bethany drops to 7-18 overall, 4-12 in conference.
The Bearcats have earned the number four seed in the south division and will travel to take on top seeded Hiram from the north division in the first round of the PAC Playoffs on Tuesday, November 11. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
