UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (Dec. 15) — No. 10 John Carroll University used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Saint Vincent 62-51 Monday evening at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in a non-conference women's basketball matchup.
John Carroll jumped out to a 17-14 lead after one quarter and extended the advantage in the second, taking a 37-29 lead into halftime. Despite a spirited effort in the second half, Saint Vincent was unable to get closer than eight points in the final period as the Blue Streaks held firm down the stretch.
The Blue Streaks shot 34.8 percent from the field on the night, including 18.2 percent from three-point range, and made 12 of 15 free throws. John Carroll also held a 40-33 rebounding edge and scored 26 points in the paint.
Makenna Maier led Saint Vincent with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting and added seven rebounds.
Brooke Evans chipped in seven points and five rebounds,
Camdon Bashor scored six, and
Emerson Peffer finished with nine points and six rebounds to pace the Bearcats' effort.
For John Carroll, Ava Ryncarz paced the winning attack with 16 points, while Carly Perusek added 15 and Nicci Finazzo contributed 12 to help the Blue Streaks secure the victory.
Saint Vincent will return to action on Friday, December 19 as they play host to La Roche in another non-conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
