GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 21)- The Saint Vincent men's tennis team increased their unbeaten streak to seven after a 5-2 win against Mount Aloysius at the Greensburg Racquet Club on Friday night.
The Bearcats (7-0) took the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches and followed by defeating the Mounties (3-6) in four of the six singles matches as well.
In doubles play,
Matthew Sadusky and
Braden Yokopenic opened with a 6-2 win at the top doubles position.
William Hinkson and
Kyle Murray followed with a 6-1 victory at third doubles to clinch the doubles point putting SVC up 1-0.
Brady Johnson and
Jack Citrone secured a 6-2 victory at number two doubles as well for SVC.
Yokopenic started singles play off with a 6-2, 6-1 in the second singles position to put SVC up 2-0. The Bearcats lead increased to 3-0 after Citrone earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four singles. After losses at first and third singles, the Mounties cut the lead to 3-2 with two matches to play.
Saint Vincent secured the win with back-to-back wins coming at number five and six singles.
J.T. Gockel earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at five singles to clinch the match, while
Anthony Sparta won 6-0, 6-0 at number six singles for Saint Vincent to secure the win.
The Bearcats return to action on Sunday, February 23 with a non-conference matchup against Penn State-Altoona. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 noon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
